Black & White Photography Workshops

I run occasional weekend workshops for up to three people at a time covering the fundamentals of traditional black and white film photography. Over two full days participants will cover the following topics:

  • Fundamentals of black and white film exposure to produce a high quality negative
  • Practicing exposure with a light meter
  • Shooting a roll or two of 35mm film
  • Basics of darkroom chemicals and how they work
  • Loading 35mm film into a daylight processing tank
  • Processing the negative
  • Producing a contact proof sheet
  • Operating an enlarger and easel
  • Creating test strips and working with multi-contrast photo papers
  • Creating several final prints

Full weekend workshops run 9am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday. I can tailor a specific workshop plan if this is not suitable. All materials are provided including a manual 35mm film camera if you do not own one yourself. You can use your own camera if you’d prefer provided aperture and shutter speed can be set manually.
